What is the best laguage to build a search engine?

Perl, C++ PHP?

Any languale is fine as long as the logic can be implemented in it, the choice of language is mostly dependent on the other specs like:

1. Speed (ease) of implementation
2. Output Speed

For ease of implementation one will prefer scripting language like PHP or Perl that is easier to work with in Web Domain.

But if speed is the priority then there is nothing better than a compiled language, like C++.
