Anti-Malware Programs Problems?

I have an HP Compaq 6710b laptop running Windows XP Professional, version 2002, service pack 3. Since the security was lacking, I recently downloaded 3 new security programs (Avast! Free, Spybot, and Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware).
Avast gave met this error when I attempted to install it:
There was an error while completing the setup process.

The other two programs installed successfully, but when I try to update Malwarebytes’, it says:
An error occurred. Please report the following error code to the Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware support team.
Error code: 732 (0, 0)

When I attempt to update Spybot, it says:
Error retrieving update info file!

A few things to note:
Internet Explorer says it cannot display any web page I visit, while all the other web browsers on my computer work fine.
When diagnosing connection problems with the XP network diagnostic, it claimed that the internet was not working and it said the connection problem was most likely caused by the firewall; though the internet is working fine (wireless connection through home router).
Spybot takes an exorbitant amount of time to load.
As another note, Malwarebytes’ discovered malware in the system yesterday. I believe the name was Hijack.regedit. I removed this as soon as I found it.
