I don’t actually want to set up a server- I just need to learn for a server at work. I need to learn PHP, learn to interact with mysql…
so I am looking ONLY to install these components- I don’t need security or mailing software.
I think I got a hold of the wrong versions of apache and mysql(What versions go well together) I found download packages- but they include the security and mail portion (Which I dont’ want)

Any suggestions?

Normally, people with XP can run and test with IIS. I have Home Edition XP and you can’t use IIS with this. I am running WAMP as my PHP server. Can I test it with this as long as I keep the .?

How can i configure the PC as server to host my developed website?

I made a site in PHP where I upload and store files with sensitive information. I forbid access to the uploaded file directory in .htaccess. The files are read through a php page with a login.

I don’t want anyone to read the files, or even see the filenames without logging in. I need this as secure as possible.

Any suggestions for improving security? Should I get an SSL certificate for the site?

Are there any benefits from classes other than better security and better code handling from the programmer side ??thanks.
